The Federation of Master Builders have written to the government asking them to bring forward the date where doubly vaccinated individuals will not need to self-isolate if they have been alerted and ‘pinged’ a message by track and trace as a result of being in contact or close to an individual with Covid-19. This has resulted in thousands of healthy and vaccinated individuals getting pinged by the NHS Track & Trace app on their phones, and are told to isolate at home for 10 days, creating the so-called ‘Pingdemic’. 

Undeniably, the Covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on most industries, specifically construction. Originally, an industry that perhaps underinvested in new technology, inevitably causing a slow growth in productivity on construction sites. Many organisations are either unprepared for or overwhelmed by the extent of new and emerging technologies. According to construction productivity has remained flat for decades.However, in recent years the construction industry has had to adapt to new methods of working and delivering to customers in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and similarly, having to keep up with the advancing world of technology in recent years. 

In 1974, the Health & Safety at Work Act was introduced to encourage and control employers to take a duty to keep their employees safe whilst carrying out activities at work. Whilst the introduction of these new regulations assisted in reducing the amount of site hazards and accidents, the construction industry still accounts for 40% of health and safety penalties, more than any other industry. Construction workers are exposed to a range of hazards daily and therefore, it is imperative that the right safety measures are put in place on site to reduce any potential hazards.
