Sunset Studios Expanding into...Hertfordshire!

Sunset Studios have revealed plans to set up a £700m film and production site in Broxbourne. Blackstone and Hudson Pacific Properties, through a joint venture, plan to transform the site which is set to be around 91 acres and would be one of the UK’s largest TV and Film studio sites.

Located 20 miles East from The Warner Bros Studio in Leavesden, the site (subject to planning permission), is set to open up around 4,500 new jobs and could put £300 million into the economy.

Currently, £120m (90 acres) of the site has been purchased and this will be the companies first expansion outside of the US. Recent research conducted by Lambert Smith Hampton  estimated 2.3 million sq ft of additional studio space would be necessary by 2033.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “This investment is excellent news for the UK’s film and TV industry, pumping hundreds of millions of pounds into the local economy and creating thousands of jobs for the people of Hertfordshire” (Construction Enquirer, 2021).

Victor Coleman, Chairman and CEO of Hudson Pacific, added: “we are thrilled to expand our Sunset Studios platform in the UK, a global hub for film and television production. With our expertise developing and operating state-of-the-art media campuses and Blackstone’s resources and existing market presence, we are confident this facility will be in high demand from leading content creators. We look forward to working with Broxbourne Council to ensure the project has a meaningful positive impact on the local community.” (Real Estate Live UK, 2021).
